RT Pro’s Logan Gastel Crashes at Bluewater BITD
RT Pro's BITD Bluewater Desert Challenge UTV Race Report

Holland, MI (10/14/2016) - RT Pro’s Logan Gastel was charging his way into the top five when he was involved in a hard crash during the Best in the Desert Bluewater Desert Challenge UTV Turbo Class event in Parker, AZ. The two-day event was the penultimate race of the season.

Logan Gastel started 14th on day one and charged all the way to seventh. Continuing his fast climb through the field on day two, Gastel’s hit a square edge in the whoops, which sent him flipping several times. Gastel repaired the car, but a bearing issue took him out of contention.

“The Maverick ran great and everything felt great,” said Gastel. “We were pushing pretty hard in the dust, probably harder than we should have. The trucks really tore up the course. Around mile seven, we hit a really deep whoop and we rolled three times. We ripped the front of the car off. We put it back together, then on mile 19 a bearing that was damaged in the crash came apart in the rear end. The rear wheels were ready to come off, which ended our day.”

Gastel was amazed at how his RT Pro chassis and components performed in the crash. “We were doing 50 mph when we flipped and our chassis held together perfectly,” said Gastel. “We didn’t bend the A-arms. It’s pretty impressive that those components are intact after violent impact like that. In the four years I’ve been racing, this is the worst crash I’ve been involved in.”

Gastel will be back in action as the series heads back to Nevada December 1-4 for the Pahrump Nugget 250 where he and his RT Pro Can-Am will look to rebound from a difficult weekend.
